Roleplay Event

Snow shrouded the evergreen forest. While darkness seeped from the cracks between trees, lights strung along a path by the nearby villagers brightened the way for wayward travelers. Everything seemed at peace within the village, but an evil presence loomed from the tallest mountaintop. There, resided a large, metallic research facility. Its owner was not pleased that he had to share so many valuable resources with his so called neighbors. Despite the remote location, these people thrived off the magical energy that permeated the air. This man, a brilliant researcher, watched from his office as snow pelted the forest below.

“Sharing? Please. This is ‘my’ land.” He crinkled his eyebrows and formed a wicked smile, remembering a project he was working on to dispose of the pests. He pressed a button on his desk and gears whirred. A section of the roof split and a tower grew, cutting the sky. Then, the tip of the tower circled a vortex of cloud, blanketing the sky, increasing the speed of the snowfall. Soon, the sheets of white was so dense, not even the scientist could see an inch past his window.

He leaned back in his chair in smug contentment. “That should do it.”

The storm is coming.

Disaster greeted the Adrimarians that morning. Spires of ice and hail the size of heads broke the entirety of Admirari. It coated the city in a vast, impenetrable wall of sure-death. Unfortunate residents who were outdoors last evening were met with the raging, frigid storm. Many perished. Even more were lost in the forest and snow. Yet the tempest raged on.

Holiday cheer? More like holiday fear.

Mr. Fits dashed through the snow, finishing his delivery of candy canes to a small elven family before spying the dark clouds in his peripheral. Lightning split the sky, reflecting off his shades like an ominous omen.

“Woah…. Now that ain’t tubular at all…” He furrowed his brow, his santa-like outfit blowing in wind. His festive hat flew off of his head and into the storm. It was getting bigger. In fact, it began to spread across the valley rapidly. The storm seemed to come from the highest mountain in the land, and Fits knew that he’d find an explanation there.

“Looks like a little jog up the mountain is in order! But I’ll have to round up some exercise buddies.” He nodded with a sense of purpose. Then, sprinted across the thick layer of snow with little difficulty.

In one hand, Arlaena sipped her cup of vodka infused hot cocoa in the Lounge Car. In the other, she cradled baby Laurence. It was a relaxing day and for once in a millennia she managed to finish her paperwork. Merostar and Ajax advised her to have a little time to herself. She didn’t argue. At least she could spend some time with her little boy instead of culling droves of enemies limb from limb.

The day drifted by and her eyes grow heavy. How long had it been since she’s slept? Maybe… just maybe… she could finally rest--

KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK

“I. Am. Going. To. Kill. Everything.”

Arlaena hefted a giggling Laurence under her arm. Rubbing her bloodshot eyes, she strode to the door only to pause and stare out a window. White. The train was buried in snow.

“How the hell…”

Arlaena pried the door open and was greeted with a small avalanche. She sidestepped as the mass off white spread against the carpet. She glared at it and anyone present would’ve sworn that the snow shriveled.

‘I’m not cleaning that.’

Fits emerged from the clump of snow, melting it in seconds.

‘Fits will clean that.’

“Arlababe! We got ourselves a cold dance floor tonight!” He yelled in his usual fashion.

She responded with composed silence. Crimson eyes scanned the windows to see black spread across the sky. “What’s going on, Fits?”

“You won’t believe it! This storm is one crazy disco fever! Admirari is completely enveloped in a totally wack black! Thunder’s clapping around the forest like it’s rainin’ men! And….” He folded his arms, totally serious. “This weather is seriously cramping up my morning workout routine.”

“Fits. The point?”

“Right, right. Looks like the storm is comin’ from high in the mountains. Doesn’t look like a natural thing, y’know? Might be like some artificial jazz you’d see in those superhero movies.” He put his hands on his waist, puffing out his chest. “While I’d say it ain’t a problem for me, the snow really cramps my style. Not as uh...silky sweet when it’s this kind of weather y’know?”

“Silky… sweet?” Arlaena’s patience strained.

“Strong. Invulnerable. All that righteous stuff. Totally bogus.” He said with a sheepish smile. “I think we better round up the other passengers for this, boss lady. Think we gotta investigate what’s going on up there.”

Arlaena rolled Laurence over and cradled him for a moment. That quelled her escalating annoyance- for now. She heaved a sigh before turning to Fits, already seeing where he was going with this. The threat couldn’t be that bad, but it never hurt to be safe. “I’ll make the announcement.”

Looks like the R&R was good while it lasted.

Prompt:

Admirari is in danger and it’s up to the World Train to put a stop to it! A raging snowstorm threatens to bury the valley. Sources say that it’s a giant weather machine atop the largest mountain that’s creating the tundra, but the only way to find out is to go there yourselves. A group of ten (excluding admins) must traverse the heavy weather and fight against many natural and unnatural foes. The snowstorm might have some adverse effects on the many magical creatures that reside the forest. From woodland creatures to snow monsters, you must battle your way to the top of the mountain and put a stop to this madness.
